He studied History at the University of Waterloo, and later attended The Western Academy of Photography in Victoria and then went to work as a reporter and photographer for the North Thompson Star/Journal in Clearwater, BC and then for the Cowichan Valley Citizen in Duncan on Vancouver Island.
A bit of a wayfarer, his interests lie in capturing the vistas and panoramas of his travels, locally, nationally and internationally.
Gerry spent three years teaching English in Taiwan, photographing and documenting his travels throughout Asia on slide film while riding his motorcycle around the island nation. And at the same time trying to save money to fund a 3,600km canoe trip through British Columbia, Alberta and the Northwest Territories. With his gear in a waterproof camera case, he and his companion set off from Hudson’s Hope, B.C. paddling north on the Peace and Slave Rivers, Great Slave Lake and the Mackenzie River to reach Inuvik, NWT near the Arctic Ocean 66 days later.
Upon his return from the wilds he switched to a digital Canon system and began shooting landscape photography.
His focus is now on the texture and character of landscapes and natural scenes.
Currently he is the owner of Framagraphic Custom Picture Framing in Vancouver, BC.
